Monday 6 May

We decided we ought to do a few activities so after breakfast Elizabeth went to Zumba which she really enjoyed but wished she'd brought some gym stuff for this voyage as everyone else was suitably togged up.

Graeme went to the beginners' bridge course which was starting up in the Atlantic card room on our deck at the front of the ship.  Just as the session was about to end some people stood up and pointed ahead of the ship.  And there was a whale on the surface, blowing. The ship changed course quickly (I hope it missed it) but before I could get the camera ready on my phone we were passing it and the opportunity was lost.

We then met up in the Carinthia lounge for the quiz. We were rubbish and got a measly 10/20.

We had lunch in the Golden Lion - steak and ale pie for Graeme and a ploughman's for Elizabeth. How lovely it is to have a pub meal and not have to pay for it! Elizabeth then went to the choir session. Today's song was 'Smile' but again the song was either in a key that was too high or too low - no altos on here😔 and not a patch on Rock Choir.

We did the Progressive Quiz (a quiz where your scores from each day are totalled up by the end of the cruise). We were joint first, but lost on the tie break (Which year was the Greenpeace Warrior ship sunk in new Zealand).

Tonight was the Red and Gold Gala (formal) night. It was maybe not so well adhered to as last week's themed nights had been but there were some beautiful dresses and jackets.

After dinner we enjoyed sitting in the Queen's Room, listening to the big band and watching the dancing especially a performance of the samba by the Ukrainian professionals on board.
