We've started to approach land and the deep mid-Atlantic is giving way to quite shallow waters off the coast of North America, or Newfoundland to be more precise.
And, just as it was for us when we reached this point on our transatlantic voyage in 2014 there is almost a dead calm with thick fog.
The dead calm aspect was a welcome contrast to the heavy seas of the evening and night before. As with our first storm, the captain had said that the sea would be getting more active, but he did add this time that the wind would be following us more this time and that it would be less uncomfortable as a result.
He was right in that regard but we could feel the movement, although it didn't unsettle us unduly.
We both obviously slept well as neither of us heard what must have been quite a loud crash as my camera tripod that I had left out well propped up from taking the photo of us on 'Black and White' night crashed to the floor and broke the phone clamp at the top. The electric toothbrush in the bathroom also fell off the shelf and landed on the bathroom floor, but thankfully the bottles we had taken from home to enjoy in the cabin remained firmly on the shelf on the cabin!
There were brighter spells later in the day but the fog eventually returned and stayed with us overnight with the ship's horn continuing to blow.
After breakfast in the buffet Elizabeth found a
quiet spot for a video call with Sarah. It was unbelievably clear especially
considering Elizabeth was in the middle of the Atlantic. She then found a
lovely spot to finally get stuck into her book.
Lunch today was in the Golden Lion pub - fish and chips, but nothing like
Papas.
We did the quiz and got 19 out of 20 so a much better performance than
yesterday. All the answers started with the letter U.
We had a pre-dinner drink in the Commodore Club as Graeme wanted to listen to
the harpist. We then went for dinner and ended up sitting with the lovely
US/Scottish couple we had met earlier in the week.
After dinner we had a quick look in the Queen's Room where it was a party night but then returned to our cabin as we were interested in the election results, although they were slow to emerge so we went to sleep!
